Rajaji National Park, spanning 819.54 sq km core and 255.63 sq km buffer zone, lies in the Shiwalik range of Uttarakhand. It's crucial for conserving endangered species like tigers, Asian elephants, Great Pied Hornbills, and King cobras at their northernmost limit. The park is part of the Terai-Arc Landscape and Shiwalik Elephant Reserve.

In 1948, C. Rajgopalchari, India's first Governor General, urged to protect this area instead of hunting there. This led to the Rajaji Wildlife Sanctuary, named after him.

In 1983, Chilla and Motichur Wildlife Sanctuaries merged with nearby forest areas to form Rajaji National Park. It became the Rajaji Tiger Reserve in 2015. The Ganga River flows through the park for 24 km, dividing it into two sections.
